What is a Map Tile?

A map tile is an artistic asset that represents a 5-foot square section of terrain from a top-down perspective. These tiles can be used to design roleplaying adventure maps for game systems like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, Shadowrun, GURPS, or any other system that utilizes a 5-foot square grid for mapping.

Each map tile blends photographic source material with hand-drawn artwork, creating a distinct visual style. The assets are rendered at a 3:1 scale — meaning three on-screen pixels per real-world inch — resulting in a map grid square of 180 pixels. This scale ensures a high level of detail in adventure maps while maintaining performance for users with older computers or slower internet connections.

The same 3:1 scale is applied to our virtual table top tokens, allowing character tokens to align seamlessly with adventure maps created using our map tiles. This also means that our Props and Objects Token packs can be used to furnish settings — such as an Alien Necrotech Facility — without any scaling issues.
