Description

What does it do?

This module is meant to allow you to create a random dungeon map on the fly with each tile having a description. It is targeted for use with solo play, but works for any style of game. Getting Started with Random Dungeon Tiles and Descriptions Video.

This process is explained in detail in the module, but the basic process is:

  • Create a new image for the random dungeon level map.
  • Place the start tile on the image and generate an area description for the tile.
  • Choose a direction to explore (i.e. where to place the next tile).
  • Generate the name of the next tile to place by rolling on a table in this module.
  • The table generates the name of the next tile in chat and a link to a story template to generate a description for that type of tile.
  • Drag and drop the tile out of "Assets" or from the "Index of All Tiles" and place it on the image next to the start tile.
  • Click the link to the story template to open it and then click the Generate button to actually create a story entry with the tile description.
  • Drag the link from the newly created story entry to the tile on the map.

This takes far less time than it took to type out.

After you’ve placed a tile and created a description, in some chamber, hall or room descriptions you will notice monster encounters, challenges, traps or secret doors. Doors can be locked, trapped and stuck. Use your game system of choice to determine the type and number of monsters as well as challenges, traps and so on.

After any encounters are finished, you repeat the process to select a new tile and the tile area description and repeat the process. You can customize the encounter chance tables to reflect your preferences and game system.

What does it not do?

This is a generic map making module.

It does NOT generate specific monsters, challenges, traps or other type of encounters. It just informs you an encounter of that type is suggested for that tile.

Works with most rulesets
The tiles should work in any ruleset. The story templates and tables are in a CoreRPG module so it will work with any ruleset that uses CoreRPG as a foundation - which is most of the newer rulesets.
