Stop treating necrotic damage like normal damage.
Stop tracking life drain by hand.
Stop losing drain effects when the Combat Tracker refreshes.

WOB: Life Drain adds powerful drain mechanics to Fantasy Grounds Unity 5E, including ability drain, max HP corruption, necrotic life-drain conversion, and crit-steal effects for deadly weapons and monsters.

Press the attack. Drop the damage. Let the extension handle the drain.

✅ What This Extension Does

Ability Drain

Drain ability scores directly from a target using supported DRAIN effects.

Examples:

DRAIN: STR 1d4
DRAIN: DEX: 2
DRAIN: CON 1d6

Supported abilities:

STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA

Behavior:

Put the DRAIN effect on the attacker. On a hit or crit, the drain amount is rolled automatically. The target receives a managed CT effect such as:

STR: -4

The visible ability score is updated automatically.

Managed drain effects stack into the same tracked total.

If an ability score reaches 0, the extension automatically applies:

Unconscious; NOTE: ABILITY ZERO
Prone; NOTE: ABILITY ZERO

Life Drain / Max HP Drain

Convert necrotic damage into maximum hit point loss instead of normal HP damage.

Supported effects:

DRAIN: LIFE
DRAIN: LIFE(H)
DRAIN: LIFE(F)

Behavior:

Put the LIFE effect on the attacker.

When the attacker deals necrotic damage, only the necrotic portion is converted.

That necrotic amount is removed from normal HP damage.

The target instead loses max HP equal to the applied necrotic amount.

Modes:

DRAIN: LIFE
Necrotic damage becomes max HP reduction only.

DRAIN: LIFE (H)
Necrotic damage becomes max HP reduction and heals the attacker for half the applied drain.

DRAIN: LIFE (F)
Necrotic damage becomes max HP reduction and heals the attacker for the full applied drain.

Additional behavior:

Max HP cannot go below 0.

Life drain is saved on the target and rebuilt on the CT.

If max HP reaches 0, the extension automatically applies:

Unconscious; NOTE: MAXHP ZERO
Prone; NOTE: MAXHP ZERO

Built-In Draining Swipe Support

If the attack name starts with:

Draining Swipe

the extension automatically treats it like:

DRAIN: STR: 1d4

This allows built-in Strength drain by action name without needing a separate custom DRAIN effect.

Crit-Steal Weapon Support

Create life-stealing weapons with special crit triggers.

Supported format:

DRAIN: IFT: Longsword Of Life Stealing; Crit: 10; Steal: 15 necrotic; TYPE: Construct, Undead

Behavior:

Put the effect on the attacker.

IFT matches the attack or item name.

Crit is the natural roll threshold needed to trigger the effect.

Steal defines the extra damage amount and damage type.

TYPE defines excluded creature types that do not take the extra steal damage.

How it works:

If the weapon name matches, and the natural roll meets or exceeds the crit threshold, the target takes the extra typed damage. The attacker gains temporary hit points equal to the final applied extra steal damage.

This is great for custom weapons like a sword of life stealing.

Manual Max HP Effects

You can place max HP effects directly on a target in the Combat Tracker.

Supported formats:

WOBMAXHP: -10
WOBMAXHP: 10
WOBMXHP: -10
WOBMXHP: 10

Behavior:

Negative values reduce maximum hit points.

Positive values increase maximum hit points.

WOBMXHP is supported as an alias.

âš¡ Slash Commands

/woblifedrainsync
Resyncs life drain and drain state on the Combat Tracker

/undodrain
/undo drain
Undoes the last drain entry applied by the extension

🧩 Designed For

GMs who want dangerous drain mechanics without manual bookkeeping

Monsters and bosses that corrupt, weaken, and consume their targets

Life-stealing weapons and custom necrotic effects

Tables that want persistent drain tracking that survives CT rebuilds

🎯 Named Trigger Effects (IFT System)

Trigger drain effects based on weapon or attack names using the IFT: system.

Supported format:

DRAIN: IFT: Longsword Of Life Stealing; Crit: 10; Steal: 15 necrotic; TYPE: Construct, Undead

Behavior:

Put the effect on the attacker.

IFT matches the attack or item name (case-insensitive, flexible matching).

Crit defines the natural roll threshold needed to trigger the effect.

Steal defines the extra damage amount and damage type.

TYPE defines excluded creature types that do not take the extra steal damage.

How it works:

If the attack or weapon name matches the IFT text, and the natural roll meets or exceeds the crit threshold, the extension queues the effect.

On damage application:

  • The target takes the extra typed damage
  • The attacker gains temporary hit points equal to the final applied extra steal damage

This allows you to build custom weapons like life-stealing swords without modifying the base item.
