Description
2E Attack Throw is a comprehensive extension for the official AD&D 2nd Edition ruleset in Fantasy Grounds Unity that replaces the traditional THAC0 / to-hit matrices with the clean, modern Attack Throw system from ACKS II (Adventurer Conqueror King System II).
It brings the elegant "N+" Attack Throw mechanic (and its supporting tables) into your 2E games while preserving full compatibility with existing modules, items, and character data.
How Attack Throw Works
- Look up the attacker's Attack Throw (the N in N+) based on class level or NPC Hit Dice.
- Roll 1d20 + modifiers (STR/DEX, weapon, effects, etc.).
- Success if total ≥ Attack Throw + target AC (using ACKS ascending AC where unarmored = 0).
- Natural 1 always misses; natural 20 always hits.
Example: A 10th-level fighter has a 4+ Attack Throw.
- Unarmored target (AC 0) → needs 4+
- Plate-armored target (AC 6) → needs 10+
Key Features
- Character Sheet: Combat tab shows Throw (the N value) instead of THAC0. AC displays as ACKS ascending (higher = better).
- NPCs / Combat Tracker: Throw field derived from Hit Dice (ACKS Monster HD table). Manual override supported.
- Attack Rolls: Chat output clearly shows [ATKTHROW(10+) vs AC 2 need 12+].
- Combat Matrix: Full replacement of the stock THAC0 matrix with ACKS-style columns (AC 0–12). Base line shows your Attack Throw as N+.
- AC Conversion: Inventory and modules continue using classic 2E descending AC under the hood (ACKS_AC = 10 - 2E_AC). No data migration needed.
- Class & NPC Support: Proper 2E grouping (Warrior / Priest / Rogue / Wizard) mapped to ACKS II Fighter, Crusader/Thief, and Mage progressions. Multiclass uses the best (lowest) throw.
Compatibility & Composition
- Works with official 2E ruleset.
- Plays well with 2e-thematicsaves, 2e-advdis, 2e-target20, 2e-skillthrow, and similar extensions.
- No core ruleset files are overwritten — uses standard extension patterns.
- Exposes AttackThrowManager.isActive() for other extensions.
- Psionics (MTHACO) left untouched.
Lightweight, reversible, and developer-friendly with included scripts for deployment, backup, sync, and building the .ext package.
