Description

This extension for fantasy grounds provides automation support for the creation of level 0 peasant characters to use in funnel adventures as described in the MCDM Arcadia article of the same name.

Wiki: https://github.com/MCDMFG/FilthyPeasants/wiki

There are some general mechanical differences for level 0 peasants:

  • Ability scores are rolled in place using the method of rolling 4d6 and keeping the three highest, first strength, then dexterity, and so on. This means that seemingly nonsensical results can occur, which can be a good amount of fun to engage with in its own right. Roll up a tavern bouncer with a strength score of only 3? There has to be a story there worth telling.
  • Peasants roll 1d4 for their hit points and then add their constitution modifier. This can result in 0 or fewer maximum hit points, which represents a peasant that didn't even survive long enough to make it to their first adventure. If this occurs the extension will notify in the Chat Window. Take a moment to consider them, what was their story?
  • Peasants have a single d4 hit die.
  • Peasants do not have a background or class. Instead they have a randomly rolled occupation.
  • Peasants have a randomly assign ancestry. However, they only gain Size, Speed, and a few peasant ancestry traits, nothing else.
  • Peasants do not start with any proficiencies except for with the starting equipment from their occupation. Any time they succeed on a skill check or saving throw they can choose to become proficient in it, up to 4 skills and 2 saves.
  • Unarmored peasants have an AC of 9 + their dexterity modifier.

Upon reaching level 1 peasants gain:

  • Any missing traits from their ancestry.
  • A class along with any equipment proficiencies, languages, and class features.
  • A background with the background feature, tool proficiencies, and languages.
  • Additional skill proficiencies to a total number equivalent to other level 1 adventurers with the same class and background.
  • Additional saving throw proficiencies to a total number equivalent to other level 1 adventurers with the same class and background.
